Idler Counterweights Available {7055,7056,4159,4150}

Usage:

Challenger 35 (8DN),
Challenger 45 (1DR),
Challenger 55 (7DM) Agricultural Tractors

Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manuals; SEBU6753-04 and SEBU7047.

Idler counterweights are available. See the following chart for parts required.

NOTE: Refer to the section in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals titled, "Adjusting Tractor Balance," in order to calculate the correct number and usage of counterweights. The counterweights shown are the maximum number which can be installed. Partial sets may be installed, as long as equal numbers are installed in all four locations (left inner, left outer, right inner, and right outer). Use only enough counterweight in this area to achieve correct balance. Excess counterweight will increase compaction and may shorten power train life.

NOTE: A complete set of counterweights weighs 2000 lbs (500 lbs/idler).

Installation Procedure

Illustration 1.
Front Idler.

1. Remove five bolts (A) from the front idler.

2. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.

(B) Mounting points for outer counterweight.

3. Install inner counterweight (1) using five washers (4) and five bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (670 ± 74 lb ft).

Illustration 3.
(C) Rotate 40 degrees counterclockwise. (D) Mounting points for inner counterweight.

4. Align the handles of outer counterweight (2) with inner counterweight (1). Then rotate outer counterweight (2) 40 degrees in the counterclockwise direction. This will achieve the correct orientation for the clearance holes.

5. Install outer counterweight (2) into the recesses around the outer edge of inner counterweight (1) (Location D) using three washers (6) and three bolts (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (400 ± 50 lb ft).

6. If needed, install the second and third outer counterweights (2) aligning the clearance holes with the threaded holes.

NOTE: The handles on the counterweights are different sizes. Be sure to align the counterweights that have the same size handles. Proper orientation of the counterweights is critical only when installing the outer counterweight onto the inner counterweight.

7. Repeat the process for each location.
