Retrofit For Primary Fuel Filter Group Helps Protect The Fuel System {1260}

Usage:

Challenger 75 (4CJ446-Up),
Challenger 75C (4KK),
Challenger 85C (9TK),
Challenger 75D (5AR),
Challenger 85D (4GR) Agricultural Tractors

Description of Change: A retrofit is available for an improved primary fuel filter group in the above Challenger Agricultural Tractors powered by 3176/3176B Machine Engines. The improved primary fuel filter group includes a water separator and filter group that helps prevent the secondary fuel filter assembly from becoming plugged, increasing the life of the secondary filter.

Adaptable To: The improved 136-4552 Primary Fuel Filter Group is available for retrofit. The improved 136-4552 Fuel Filter Group is effective with Challenger 75D (5AR1) and Challenger 85D (4GR1) Agricultural Tractors and adaptable to Challenger 75 (4CJ446-Up), Challenger 75C (4KK1-Up), Challenger 85C (9TK1-Up), Challenger 75D (5AR1-Up), and Challenger 85D (4GR1-Up) Agricultural Tractors. See the following chart for parts required.

Installation Procedure

1. Turn off the fuel supply in front of the fuel tank. Then remove the bolts and washers from the rear engine mount support angle.

NOTICE

Make sure the rear of the engine is fully supported with blocks in order to avoid movement or damage.

2. Place bracket (18) on the outside of the support angle and install four bolts (19) and four hard washers (20).

3. Mount base (17) onto bracket (18) using two bolts (11), two spacers (10), two hard washers (12) and two nuts (13).

4. Install the O-ring plug (14) and O-ring seal (7) in the left front and the right rear of base (17). Install elbow (6) and O-ring seal (7) in the left rear of base (17).

5. Place O-ring seal (2) on hose assembly (1) and connect the hose to elbow (6) installed in the side of base (17).

6. Install elbow (6) and an O-ring seal (7) into the side of the transfer pump (inlet).

7. Connect the hose from hose assembly (1) to elbow (6) to complete the installation.

8. Connect the incoming fuel line to base (17).

* Connect hose assembly (For 12.7 ID 1E-1130 Hose) (5) to coupling (3) with an O-ring seal (4).
* Assemble connector (9) and O-ring seal (7).
* Connect the above assembled parts to ball valve (8) and O-ring seal (7).

NOTE: Hose assembly (5) may have to be shortened in order to avoid any tight turns in the hose.

9. Finally, connect hose (21) to bottom of bowl (16) using clamp (22). Route hose (21) as shown and clip the hose to the frame using clip (23), washer (24), and bolt (25).

Maintenance Schedule

The maintenance schedule for the 136-4552 Primary Fuel Filter Group/Water Separator Assembly follows:

* Every 10 hours of operation or daily, drain the water separator bowl and drain water and sediment from the fuel tank. (Located at the rear of the machine.)
* Every 250 service hours of operation, replace the primary fuel filter group/water separator element with a 133-5673 Filter Element. Replace the secondary fuel filter element with a 1R-0749 Fuel Filter Assembly.
