Reports have been received of 16 ply rated, 20 ply rated, and L-5 tires being mounted on Caterpillar single piece rim assemblies. Neither Caterpillar nor our tire suppliers recommend this configuration.

Servicing this configuration is a concern. The stiff sidewalls of the 16 ply, 20 ply, and L-5 tires make mounting the tires difficult. Dismounting the tires from the single piece rim assemblies require the tire to be destroyed or the rim assembly to be damaged or destroyed.

From a service standpoint, mount tires on the rim assemblies with a tire ply rating that Caterpillar and the original equipment tire suppliers recommend.
