Description of Change: Two versions of improved drivewheels are now available. The 1R-1184 and 1R-1185 Drivewheels equal the performance of new 1R-1094 and 1R-1171 Drivewheels, but maintain that performance in difficult applications for a much longer period of time. The 109-6267 Drivewheel prevents belt-to-driver slip in wide variety of adverse conditions that previously challenged the capability of earlier drivewheel designs. Either drivewheel may be appropriate, depending on the type and severity of the application. The following paragraphs describe the features and benefits of each design.
Adaptable To: The 1R-1184 Drivewheel and the 1R-1185 Drivewheels (60 degree Chevrons) are effective with Challenger 65D (2ZJ2395), Challenger 75D (5AR332), Challenger 85D (4GR466) Agricultural Tractors. The 1R-1184 Drivewheel and the 1R-1185 Drivewheel are adaptable to all earlier machines except those machines equipped with outboard brakes. (See the next paragraph.) The new drivewheels may be intermixed with the earlier style drivewheels as long as the difference in circumference between the two paired drivewheels is less than 8 mm (.31 in). If a drivewheel is being replaced due to belt-to-drivewheel slippage, replace the drivewheels in pairs.
NOTE: Challenger 65 (7YC1-2093) and Challenger 75 (4CJ1-435) Agricultural Tractors equipped with brake caliper guards may have interference between the drivewheel rim and the brake guard. In these cases, brake guards must be modified in order to allow clearance.
The 109-6267 Driver (Cast Slotted) is available as an attachment effective with Challenger 65D (2ZJ2395), Challenger 75D (5AR332), Challenger 85D (4GR466) Agricultural Tractors. The 109-6267 Drivewheel is adaptable to Challenger 65B (7YC2094-Up), Challenger 75 (4CJ436-Up), all Challenger "C" Series, and all earlier Challenger "D" Series Agricultural Tractors.
These drivewheels will NOT fit on machines equipped with outboard brakes [Challenger 65 (7YC1-2093) and Challenger 75 (4CJ1-435)]. In addition, the 109-6267 Drivers are not recommended for use with 1R-1101, 1R-1102, 1R-1103, and 1R-1104 (889 mm (35 in) Belts, due to concerns of possible damage to the inner diameter of the overhung edge of the belts.

The 1R-1184 Drivewheel and 1R-1185 Drivewheel are now standard on Challenger 65D (2ZJ2300-Up), Challenger 75D (4GR), and Challenger 85D (5AR) Agricultural Tractors. The tread pattern is changed from a "diamond" to a "chevron". In addition, the rubber is a higher durometer to improve durability. These two changes will keep drivewheels in a "as new" condition significantly longer when compared to the previous designs in the same applications.

The 134-0783 Driver Group is available as an attachment. The 134-0783 Driver Group should be considered for use in extreme service applications. The 109-6267 Drivewheel, which does not have any rubber or tread pattern, is of a single piece design, so only two wheels are required per tractor. The drivewheel has openings between the spokes which allows debris to escape rather than to build up or be reingested.
Applications in vegetable debris, manure, silage, peat, gumbo, feed lots, snow and ice mix, and rice have seen elimination of belt to driver slip and debris buildup in most situations. However, the initial cost of the 109-6267 Driver is higher. In addition, installed 109-6267 Drivers increase machine weight by approximately 454 kg (1000 lb) as compared to the standard configuration. The additional driver weight reduces the amount of allowable counterweights and attachments that can be added and remain within the ROPS certification limits.
The cast slotted drivers are not recommended for use in purely contruction applications. The lack of rubber coating can make the cast slotted driver more vulnerable to ice and snow build-up, and more likely to damage the inside of the belt when running in soils where sharp pieces of rock can be ingested through the undercarriage. The ride of the machine may also be a bit stiffer. Dealers and customers will need to analyze the application when deciding which drivewheel configurations to use when equipping individual machines.
The improved (heavy duty) guard and cleaner bar MUST be installed when using cast slotted drivers. The new guard/cleaner group keeps debris out of the guide block area, which reduces loading on the guideblocks and belt. In addition, replaceable wear plates remove vegetation and other debris from the drivewheel spokes. Without the guard assembly and scrapers in place, many of the advantages derived from the cast slotted drivers will be negated if debris packing occurs.
