Description of Change:
Premachined valve seat inserts and a precision valve guide are now used in all 3500 Engine cylinder heads within the above machines and remanufactured engines. These parts are also available for the rebuilding of cylinder heads.
Standard machining practices in the field were not sufficient to provide a properly machined valve seat insert surface on a repeatable basis. As the result, these parts were specifically designed to improve the concentricity of the valve and valve seat in the cylinder head. These newly designed parts increase the life of a valve.
The valve seat inserts are installed with the currently available tooling. After installation use a 0.038 mm (.0015 in) feeler gauge to ensure the insert is in contact with the bottom of the cylinder head counterbore.
Adaptable To:
The new part numbers are:
-
- * 131-4340 (30 Degree) Exhaust Valve Seat Insert
- * 136-9630 (30 Degree) Inlet Valve Seat Insert
- * 130-2607 (20 Degree, Low Speed) Inlet Valve Seat Insert
- * 130-2613 (Precision) Valve Guide
- * 131-4340 (30 Degree) Exhaust Valve Seat Insert
The new 131-4340 Exhaust Valve Seat Insert can be used in all diesel 3500 applications. The 136-9630 Inlet Valve Seat Insert is a direct replacement for the former 7E-5862 and 4P-6776 Inlet Valve Seat Inserts. The premachined valve seat inserts must be used with the precision valve guides.
