Field Repair Of Single Wire Breaks In Harnesses {1408}

Usage:

All Machines

Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9615, "Servicing DT Connectors".

Special Instruction, SEHS9065, "Use Of CE/VE Connector Tools".

Field repair of individual 18 to 12 gauge broken or damaged wires is possible with the parts in Chart A and B. The repair will be sealed, serviceable and soldering is not required.

Procedure To Repair 18 To 16 Gauge Wires:

Follow the Special Instruction SEHS9615 for the preparation of the wires. Use the 1U-5804 Hand Crimp Tool to secure the 8T-8729 Connector Pin and 8T-8730 Connector Socket to the wires. Insert the connector pin and socket into the 115-8109 Splice and make sure that both are locked into place by tugging on the wires. Secure the splice back to the harness with a 3S-2093 Cable (Tie Wrap) Strap. Tighten the cable strap by hand or use a 4C-5877 Cable Tie Tool which tightens and cuts off the excess cable strap at the same time.

NOTE: The connector pin and socket can be removed from the splice with a 4C-4074 Removal Tool.

Procedure To Repair 14 To 12 Gauge Wires:

Follow the Special Instruction SEHS9065 for the preparation of the wire. Use the 1U- 5804 Hand Crimp Tool to secure the 8N-1540 Connector Pin and 8N-1541 Connector Socket to the wires. Insert the 8N-1541 Connector Socket into the 129-7163 Plug Assembly. Insert the 8N-1540 Connector Pin into the 129-7164 Receptacle Assembly. Make sure that both are locked into place by tugging on the wires. Mate the 129-7163 Plug Assembly and 129-7164 Receptacle Assembly together and make sure the locking feature is engaged. Secure the plug/receptacle assembly to the harness with a 3S-2093 Cable (Tie-Wrap) Strap. Tighten the cable strap by hand or use a 4C-5877 Cable Tie Tool which tightens and cuts off the excess cable strap at the same time.

NOTE: The connector pin and socket can be removed from the plug and receptacle assemblies with a 4C-4073 Removal Tool.
