A new suspension kit is available to retrofit and replace the complete midwheel assemblies on early model Challenger Agricultural Tractors. The group contains the complete assembly including an installed spindle. See the illustration. The installation is accomplished by simply removing the existing spindle from the midbeam and bolting the new kit in place.
This design is identical to the wide gauge Challenger Agricultural Tractor. This kit has sealed and lubricated pivot joints, no daily maintenance points, and serviceable inserts for low cost rebuilding of major components. The new design improves substantially on the original design, which contained many daily grease points and was subject to wear in non-serviceable locations in the major pivot joint.
The 118-6268 Suspension Kit is directly adaptable to Challenger 65 (7YC614-up), Challenger 65B (7YC), Challenger 75 (4CJ), Challenger 65C (2ZJ1-499), and Challenger 75C (4KK1-499) Agricultural Tractors. On Challenger 65 (7YC1-613) Agricultural Tractors the spindle is not removable therefore a bolt-on conversion must be done in order to use the 118-6268 Suspension Kit. Refer to Service Magazine; January 29, 1990; Page 2; "Procedure To Modify Single Piece Suspension Support To Accept Bolt-on Spindle".
NOTE: The 118-6268 Suspension Kit can ONLY be used with belts that have 127 mm (5 in) guide block heights. Early belts were constructed with 152 mm (6 in) high guide blocks, which were later changed to 140 mm (5.5 in) guide block heights. Only the "Neutral Steer" belts, available since late 1994, have the 127 mm (5 in) high guide blocks. The 140 mm (5.5 in) and 154 mm (6 in) high blocks MUST be trimmed to 127 mm (5 in) in order to prevent interference with the minor bogie arms. Refer to Service Magazine; May 29, 1995; Page 1; "Causes and Prevention Of Guideblock Scuffing" for a complete listing of "Neutral Steer" part numbers.
For all dealers, excluding CBSA, the 118-6268 Suspension Kit should be ordered through the machine order system (MSO). CBSA dealers must order the 118-6268 Suspension Kit through the parts system.
