Improvements to Service Information System (SIS) 2.0 Update{0374,0375,0376}

Usage:

Description of Change: There are a number of changes and /or enhancements in the 2.0 Release of SIS. These include:

* Data encryption on the CD-ROM
* Tool information command button relocated on SIS main menu
* Tool selection active if ET 1.2 is loaded on the workstation
* Technical information accessible by date/media
* Numerical Parts Record information included
* Engine performance specification information included
* New parts list screen has more items on the parts list
* New functions available for the parts information screen
* OS/2 WARP, version 3 with WIN-OS/2 is supported
* New security for customer SIS implementation is installed

Starting in May 1995, information on the product CDs was encrypted which means we will no longer request return of the data CDs. Any libraries prior to May 1995 must be returned to Caterpillar Inc.

New date/media button allows the user to access information within SIS by using a date range and information type or the media number of the document.

Numerical Parts Record (NPR) information is on one CD and can be accessed from the SIS main menu. The system prompts you to put in the NPR CD and enter the part number to view. A new NPR button has been added to allow navigation to the NPR information and back to the Parts List for easier editing of information.

New parts list screen replaces the previous parts order screen. The new screen allows up to 16 lines of parts to be displayed on the first screen making maintenance and viewing easier.

Engine test cell results and test specification data are available on one CD and updated monthly. Engine performance specification information can be accessed from the main menu.

SIS version 2.0 and Cat ET version 1.2 have been integrated. The ability to start and access the CAT ET program from the SIS main menu tool selection button as well as navigate from SIS to CAT ET within SIS diagnostics is available.

SIS will now run with the operating system of OS/2, 3.0 WARP (with WIN-OS/2). Previous versions of SIS would not work with WARP.

Enhancements to the process of displaying graphics have been added. Also certain graphic display problems encountered in the previous releases have been corrected.

Configuration screen uses the arrangement number to determine which parts book to display. The configuration screen will only be displayed when more than one parts book is applicable to the serial number/arrangement number entered.

The right mouse button has a new feature added to use in the parts identification screen. When the arrow is on a parts line in the consists, the system allows the user to change the order quantity on the part, display reman parts, navigate to separate illustration or NPR.

Security enhancements enable the dealer security administrator to establish users by information type, serial no. prefix, model or product family. This will allow administrators to establish security for customers as well as dealership employees.
