Description of Change: A new front windshield wiper motor is used. The new motor is more suitable for heavy-duty applications than the former motor.
Adaptable To: This change is effective with machine numbers 5WD347 and 4SD348. The new motor can be installed on earlier trucks in place of the former 6U2916 Motor. Some minor cab modifications are necessary to make the motor fit and the interior light must be moved.
Parts needed are listed in the chart.
Procedure To Install New Wiper Motor
1. Remove the wiper motor and the interior light.
2. Carefully enlarge the existing 15 mm (.59") hole (C) in the cab to 22 mm (.875") diameter to accept the spindle on the new motor.
3. Drill two new holes (D) 7 mm (.28") diameter on each side of the spindle hole as shown in the illustration.
4. Drill one hole (B) 14.5 mm (.578") diameter and two holes (A) 7.2 mm (.281") diameter for the interior lights as shown.
5. Assemble the new parts as shown. Harness (10) connects to three of the existing wires from the former motor. Match the wires by color. The fourth (black) wire is not needed. Cut the end and tape.
6. Install the interior light at its new location.
NOTE: Tightening torques:
Nut (F): 14 to 18 N·m (10.3 to 13.3 lb ft)
Nut (E): 17 to 23 N·m (12.5 to 17.0 lb ft)
Relocation of interior light and installation of new wiper motor. Dimension (G) = 20.0 mm (.79"). Dimension (H) = 32.0 mm (1.26"). Dimension (J) = 86 mm (3.38").
