Move The Grease Fitting To Improve Lubricant Penetration To Suspension Frame Bearings

Usage:

D250B, D300B, D25C, D30C, D35C, D350C, D35HP And D400 Trucks

Description of Change: The position of the grease fittings for lubrication of the front suspension frame bearings have been changed. Formerly, the grease fittings were located in the bearing caps. They are now located in the bearing trunnions. This new location allows better lubricant penetration.

Adaptable To: Introduction of this change was not recorded. Inspect the bearing trunnion to determine if the grease line is in the trunnion or in the bearing cap. This change is adaptable to earlier trucks.

Procedure To Relocate Grease Fitting

1. Lower the tractor suspension to the service position.

2. Put stands under the tractor frame.

3. Block both sides of the front wheels.

4. Disconnect two grease lines (1) and remove and discard elbows (2). Install 9F2247 Plugs in place of the discarded elbows. See Illustration 1.

5. Inspect suspension frame bearing trunnion (3) to determine if there is a plugged hole present at location (A). If there is no plugged hole, remove the trunnions (one at a time) and drill and tap them as shown in Illustration 2.

6. Make sure all cuttings and burrs are removed before installing the trunnions.

7. Install the 8L6557 Adapters in holes (A) and connect grease lines (1) to the trunnions.

8. Grease the bearings.
