The crankcase guard plate needs to be reworked to eliminate interference with the secondary steer motor terminal on certain 928G Wheel Loaders and IT28G Integrated Tool Carriers with 2034659 or 2182472 Secondary Steering option. The 2182833 Plate Assembly will require an additional diameter 50 mm hole cut out for clearance, to eliminate possible interference with a terminal on secondary steer 2055266 Motor Group.AFFECTED PRODUCT

Cut a 50 mm hole in the 2182833 Plate Assembly for clearance to eliminate possible interference with a terminal on secondary steer 2055266 Motor Group. The 2182833 Plate Assembly (crankcase guard) is installed as part of any one of these following options: 2139036 Guard Group, 2137244, 2137245 Waste Handler Arrangement, 2044326, 2044327, or 2044328 Suppression Arrangement. See the attached Rework Procedure.

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The crankcase guard plate needs to be reworked to eliminate interference with the secondary steer motor terminal on certain 928G Wheel Loaders and IT28G Integrated Tool Carriers with Secondary Steering option. Failure of the secondary steering system to function may cause personal injury of death. The plate assembly will require an additional hole cut out for clearance. The crankcase guard needs to be reworked on the products listed below.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated March 18, 2004 when scheduling this service. You will not be charged for the service performed.

Rework Procedure
- Remove 2182833 Crankcase Guard Plate from the machine and any sound suppression material if installed.
- Rework 2182833 Crankcase Guard Plate by adding a 50 mm diameter hole through plate as shown in Illustration 1.
- Reinstall the crankcase guard plate onto machine and any sound suppression material if installed.
