Product Support Program For Replacing The 1340450 Block Group-Upper On Certain 583R Pipelayers To Inhibit Bunching Of The Cable Caterpillar

NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after failure.In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4883" as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. If adminstered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If adminstered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the July 15, 1999 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the TERMINATION DATE.

Problem

When the cable for the boom winch on certain 583R Pipelayers is reeved in, it tends to bunch. To inhibit bunching the 1340450 Block Group-Upper has been changed such that the cable is routed differently between the upper block and the winch. The change includes replacement of the 8P5751 Plate As. with the 1653783 Plate As.

Parts Needed

1 - 1653783 PLATE AS.

Action Required

Lower the boom onto a support.

Unwind the cable from the winch and upper block group.

Remove the block group from the boom.

Replace the 8P5751 Plate As. with the 1653783 Plate As. and reinstall the block onto the boom.

Reeve the cable as illustrated in the Service Magazine Article published June 1, 1999.
