Usage:
NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4910" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: Although this Program is to be administered as described above on the Affected Product, parts should be removed from Parts Stock as soon as possible.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the August 7, 1999 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Affected Product and Service Claim Allowances.

The grapple snubber needs to be updated to increase life on certain 515 and 525 Wheel Skidders and 517 and 527 Track Skidders. This will upgrade machines from the current stabilizer design to the improved power pack design.

Rework Procedure
The conical style snubber needs to be removed and replaced with the improved power pack design. Remove conical style snubber, keeping the following parts:
- 2 -1M8949 Rod
- 2 - 8T4123 Washer
- 2 - 8T6430 Bolt
- *2 - 1250123 Pin
- 2 - 1250141 Locking Plate
- 2 - 1250142 Acorn Nut
- *4 - 1583645 Spring Assembly
- *4 - 1583646 Spacer - Tension
- 2 - 8T4123 Washer
*If these parts show signs of wear, discard and replace with new.
1. Before assembling the powdered metal bearings and lip seals into the new snubber link, the flat machined faces of the link that mate against the friction disks need to be thoroughly cleaned. Use a general purpose degreaser or cleaning solvent to remove the silicone protectant/rust inhibitor and provide bare metal for proper friction development.
2. Reassemble with new parts (see Illustration 1). The 1583645 Spring Assembly from the stabilizer spreads contact force around a larger diameter of the retainer. It needs to be installed so the larger diameter is against the retainer and the smaller diameter is against the tension spacer, clevis or boom end. The longer 1583646 Tension Spacer from the stabilizer keeps the retainer nut from bottoming out.
3. Tighten the snubber to a torque of 500 ± 34 N·m for sorting heads. See Illustration 3. For Bunching Heads, tighten the snubber to a torque of 625 ± 34 N·m. See Illustration 4. Adjust to suit terrain and application.
4. To check for proper swing:
a. Pull the grapple backwards and release in order to check the movement from front to rear. If the grapple tongs swing past the vertical position, adjust the snubber.
b. Pull the grapple sideways and release in order to check the sideways movement. If the grapple tongs swing past the vertical position, adjust the snubber.
NOTE: Do not over tighten the nut on the swing dampener (snubber). Over tightening can damage the snubber and cause the friction discs to wear more quickly.
5. Install Plate (3) and bolt (4). Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 460 ± 60 N·m (340 ± 45 lb-ft). See Illustration 2.
