The hoist pump needs to replaced and the baffle reworked on certain 793C Off Highway Trucks. The former hoist 1539509 Pump Group had a high incidence of cavitation, and needs to be replaced with a 1718892 Pump Group. Also, the 6E0560 Baffle Assembly may fracture, work loose and eventually fall to the bottom of the hydraulic tank. This can cause aeration, leading to cavitation and damage to the hoist pump.

Rework Procedure
Replace the former 1539509 Pump Group with a new 1718892 Pump Group. This is a direct replacement for the former pump group. Then rework the baffle by fabricating a tab and welding the tab to the 6E0560 Baffle Assembly mounted inside the hydraulic tank.
If the lower mounting tabs are fractured or show signs of damage, use the following instructions to correct and improve the reliability of the lower mounting tabs.
Fabricating And Welding Instructions:
1. Using a 5.0 mm (.197 in) thick SAE 1008 carbon steel, fabricate two new lower mounting tabs according to Illustration 3.
NOTE: Fabricate a mounting tab for each of the two 6E0650 Baffle Assemblies.
2. Drain the 1227997 Hydraulic Tank Group.
3. Remove the 6E0650 Baffle Assemblies.
4. Use a grinder to remove the existing 2.5 mm (.098 in) thick mounting tab from the bottom plate of the baffle assembly. Refer to Illustration 2. To prepare for welding, clean the bottom plate of the baffle assembly where the mounting tab was removed.
5. Refer to Illustration 3 to weld the fabricated mounting tab in position on the baffle assembly. Use two 2.5 mm (.098 in) weld beads as shown in Illustration 3.
6. Install the repaired 6E0650 Baffle Assemblies.
7. Before refilling the hydraulic tank with oil, flush and clean tank. Make sure the inside of the tank is clean and all debris particles are removed.
