A New Air Cleaner Canister May Need To Be Installed On Certain 918F, 928F And 953B Loaders, IT18F And IT28F Tool Carriers Caterpillar

NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3743" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3743" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Problem

The air cleaner outlet cover assembly may fail allowing unfiltered air to enter the engine intake manifold on certain 918F, 928F and 953B Loaders and IT18F and IT28F Tool Carriers.

Parts Needed

Dealers will need to order parts for this Program.

1 - 1236044 Canister Assembly (918F and IT18F)

or

1 - 1236043 Canister Assembly (928F and IT28F)

or

1 - 1236042 Canister Assembly (953B)

Action Required

Inspect the air cleaner assembly on the outlet side of the canister. If the canister has four strip welds or a continuous weld around the area shown in the Illustration below, no further action is necessary. Complete a SIMS ticket for the machine listing PI3743 as the Part Number Causing Failure, and put "Air Cleaner is OK" in the Comment section.

If the canister is not welded as shown below, replace the air cleaner with the appropriate new air cleaner.

If an air cleaner is replaced, mark the product identification number and service meter units (smu) on the air cleaner and return it, freight collect, to the Claims Section Supervisor of the Caterpillar Parts Depot at Grimbergen.

All other dealers

Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
