New Type Seal Used On Water Separator Elements

Usage:

1100 Series, 3208, 3306, 3406 Truck Engines

A change has been made to the seals on the 6N7617 Water Separator Element that is used on some of the above truck engines. The seals formerly used on these elements were flat face seals. Later elements have toroidal (large and round) seals.

The element has a dimple (or bubble) on the metal plate which permits the element to be installed in an exact location. The height of the dimple above the plate must not be more than .12" (3.0 mm) on separator elements with the former flat face seals or more than .16" (4.1 mm) with the new toroidal (large and round) seals. For a period of time, the dimple was made too high on elements with the flat face seals. If any of these former elements are used, check the element for correct dimple height. If you find leaks around an element installed on an engine, check the element for correct dimple height.

Location and height of dimple on elements for use with flat face seals; end view shown.
