Engine Oil Viscosity Changed To SAE 10W/30 For Shipment From All U. S. Factories{1318}

Usage:

All Caterpillar Products Except 3208 And Natural Gas Engines

The engine crankcase of all Caterpillar products except 3208 and Natural Gas Engines is to be filled with SAE 10W/30 oil at U. S. factories before shipment, except engine models which are drained for shipment. This change is in effect on the models shown in the chart, and will be in effect on other models soon. The Lubrication Notice fastened to the engine will show this change.

The API (American Petroleum Institute) classification of type CD is not changed. The SAE 10W/30, type CD oil can be used until the first oil change interval in temperatures between -10°F (-23°C) and 90°F (32°C). If oil must be added during this interval, use type CD oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W/30 if available, or see the Lubrication and Maintainance Instructions for the correct viscosity oil to use according to the atmospheric temperature. Be sure to use oil with an API classification type CD. This change in the original oil used at the factory has no effect on the basic lubrication instructions. Follow these instructions for oil change intervals, type and SAE grades of oil to use.
