Usage:
D250B and D300B Trucks
Description of Change: A new cover assembly is used on the hydraulic oil return filter on D250B and D300B Trucks. The new cover assembly has a longer screen (see Illustration 1) which protects the filter element at the point where oil enters the housing. This keeps the return oil or any debris in the oil from damaging the filter element.

Adaptable To: The new 7U3282 Cover Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 3U1356 Cover Assembly. This change is in effect with D250B Trucks 5WD212, 5WD217-Up and D300B Trucks 4SD168-Up.
The new cover assembly can be installed on machines in service, but the former cover assembly can be modified as follows.
1. Make an extension piece from mild steel that is 1.6 mm (.06") thick by 70 mm (2.8") wide by 444.5 mm (17.5") long. Weld it into a circle as shown in Illustration 2.
2. Weld the extension piece to the bottom of the former cover assembly as shown in Illustration 3. Stagger the inside and outside welds and ensure a close fit at the joint. If gaps appear anywhere along the joint, fill them with weld.

NOTE: The former 3U1356 Cover Assembly causes no problems in other applications but will be serviced by the new 7U3282 Cover Assembly when existing parts stock is depleted. The new 7U3282 Cover Assembly has also been introduced on other models.
