SERVICE MAGAZINE; NOVEMBER 21, 1988; PAGE 2; "Make Sure Air Conditioner Receiver Is Installed Correctly" on 416 Backhoe Loaders equipped with air conditioning. In the caption for Illustration 1, put a mark through the part number 9D6888. The correct part number is 5V5698. In the caption for Illustration 2, put a mark through the part number 5V5698. The correct part number is 9D6888.

Also, the correct refrigerant charge for the air conditioner system is:

...1.8 kg (3.9 lb) for the 9D6888 Receiver Dryer.

...2.2 kg (4.9 lb) for the 5V5698 Receiver Dryer.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Some 416 Backhoe Loaders equipped with air conditioning were assembled with a 9D6888 Receiver Dryer [76 mm (3") diameter] in place of the 5V5698 Receiver Dryer which is 102 mm (4") in diameter.

The low pressure cutout switch is on the opposite side of the 9D6888 Receiver Dryer and the wiring harness will not reach the switch. The 9D6888 Receiver Dryers were installed backward, with the refrigerant flowing from the outlet to the inlet, so that the harness could be connected. The air conditioner will not function correctly with the receiver dryer connected in this manner.

Replace the 9D6888 Receiver Dryer with a 5V5698 Receiver Dryer. Make sure the dryer is installed correctly. The inlet and outlet are marked on the side of the dryer. The inlet should connect to the condenser and the outlet to the expansion valve. Refrigerant flow is then in accordance with the arrow on the side of the dryer.

Assemble the parts needed as shown in the illustrations. The parts needed to install either of the dryers are listed in the chart.

The correct refrigerant charge for the air conditioner system is:

...18 N (3.9 lb) for the 9D6888 Receiver Dryer.

...22 N (4.9 lb) for the 5V5698 Receiver Dryer.
