Reference: Operation And Maintenance Manual; SEBU6966; 3606, 3608, 3612 and 3616 Industrial, Generator Set and Marine Engines; For Engines Operating On Heavy Fuel Oils.

Special Instruction, SEHS9741, "Cleaning 3600 Unit Injectors".

This article supersedes the article with the same title on Page 8 of the November 1995 issue.

The schedule for inspecting and cleaning the unit injectors in engines run on HFO has changed. Formerly, the recommendation was to remanufacture or rebuild the unit injectors after 10,000 hours of operation. The current recommendation is to clean the unit injectors after each 4,000 hours of operation. This scheduled cleaning can reduce the number of injector sticking incidents if completed properly and used in conjunction with proper operating procedures. Use the procedure provided in the Reference Special Instruction. This change is included and correct in the latest Reference Operation And Maintenance Manual for engines using Heavy Fuel Oils.
