3406E (9WR371-Up) Marine Engines
Description of Change: New software is available for the above marine engines. The new software improves cold start capability, reduces white smoke, and eliminates engine instability. The "SHUTDOWN" option has been removed from the engine monitoring package and an injector "clack" test has been added.
New Features

- * The software has been modified to provide improved cold start capability and reduced white smoke during cold start up.
- * "Three cylinder cutout" while the engine is in "Cold Mode" has been added in order to reduce white smoke.
- * A slower transition from low idle rpm to "Slow Mode" rpm has been added in order to eliminate engine instability during the transition.
- * The "Shutdown" option has been removed from the engine monitoring package.
- * An injector "Clack" test has been added. The "Clack" test is started with a service tool and causes the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to energize the injector solenoids one at a time. This produces an audible "click" that can be used for diagnostic purposes.
- * The software has been modified to provide improved cold start capability and reduced white smoke during cold start up.
Adaptable To:
New software is available and effective with the above marine engines. The new software has a Feb. 1997 release date. The release date can be read using Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) or Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET). The CAT ET must be version 2.0 or later. The ECAP, Service Program Module (SPM) NEXG4516, version 1.6 or later must be installed in order to support the new features.
