Description of Change: The piston rings in the above 3208 Engines have been improved. The three ring piston design reduces crankcase fumes and oil carryover. Air filter element life is extended, oil consumption and black smoke levels are reduced.
Adaptable To: The 130-3987 Piston Ring (Top) replaces the former 9Y-6774 Piston Ring (Top) and the 130-3997 Piston Ring (Intermediate) replaces the former 9Y-6775 Piston Ring (Intermediate). The improved piston rings can be used with the 16.5 to 1 compression ratio, 7E-4729 Piston Body Assembly.
NOTE: The 130-3987 Piston Ring (Top) and 130-3997 Piston Ring (Intermediate) and the 7E-7297 Piston Ring Assembly (Oil Ring) can be used in 425HP, 3208 Direct Injection Turbocharged Aftercooled, Separate Circuit Aftercooled (DITA/SCAC) Marine Engines, when they are rebuilt with the 101-0812 Body Assembly.

The 101-0812 Body Assembly or 7E-4729 Piston Body Assembly cannot be mixed with two ring pistons in the same engine. The 130-3987 Piston Ring (Top), 130-3997 Piston Ring (Intermediate) and 7E-7297 Piston Ring Assembly (Oil Ring) MUST be used with the 101-0812 Body Assembly or 7E-4729 Piston Body Assembly. The 7E-4729 Piston Body Assembly has a higher top ring position, so any cylinder bore wear step or carbon ridge MUST be removed prior to installation to prevent ring failure.

NOTE: The 101-0812 Body Assembly and 7E-4729 Piston Body Assembly can be used with the 7C-8117, 7C-8118, 7C-8119 and 121-3115 Crankshaft Damper Assemblies.
