- Remove electric starting motor.

Use a hammer and a punch to remove the ring gear from the flywheel. |
Note: Identify the orientation of the teeth on the ring gear.

Always wear protective gloves when handling parts that have been heated. |

Raise the temperature of the ring gear to a maximum temperature of |
Note: Do not use a torch to heat the ring gear.
Note: Identify the orientation of the teeth on the ring gear.
Note: The chamfered side of the ring gear teeth must face toward the starting motor when the flywheel is installed. The chamfered side of the ring gear teeth ensures the correct engagement of the starting motor.

- Check the run out of the flywheel. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect" for further information.
