CX38-P892 Well Servicing Transmission Caterpillar

Transmission Does Not Respond to Shift Selector

Usage:

CX38-P800 A3X
The shifter may not work properly if the transmission is not connected to the vehicle battery, the ignition switch is not connected or the J1939 Data Link is wiring is disconnected. The shift pad will display "--" instead of "NN" when the key start switch is turned to the ON position.

Check the following:

  • Check for battery power to the Transmission ECU.

  • Check for ignition power to the Transmission ECU.

  • Check the J1939 Data Link wires and connectors.

  • Verify that the correct serial number for the Transmission ECU has been programmed.

See the Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connector - Inspect" section of this manual for more information.

If the shifter only displays the right side digit, the serial number for the torque converter may not be programmed. Verify that the correct serial number for the torque converter has been programmed.
