Installation Procedure

Note: Repeat the procedure for each cylinder head.

Note: Inspect all seals and O-rings for wear and damage and replace if necessary.

1. Clean the surface of the cylinder head and the spacer plate. A new spacer plate gasket must be installed when the cylinder head is removed.

2. Install O-rings, seals, and spacer plates and spacer plate gasket.

3. Install cylinder head gasket.

4. Install Tooling (A) on cylinder head (14). Use the holes for the bolts that hold the valve cover base. The cylinder head (14) weighs approximately 41 kg (90 lb).

5. Fasten a suitable lifting device to the cylinder head (14).

6. Position the cylinder head (14) and brackets, and install bolts (12), (13), and (15).

7. Tightening procedure for cylinder head bolts.

   1. Tighten bolts (1–8) in numerical sequence shown to 30 ± 5 N·m (22 ± 4 lb ft).

   2. Tighten bolts (1–8) in numerical sequence shown to 200 ± 15 N·m (148 ± 11 lb ft).

   3. Retighten bolts (1–8) in numerical sequence shown to 200 ± 15 N·m (148 ± 11 lb ft).

   4. Turn bolts (1–8) in numerical sequence shown to an angle of (180 ± 5°).

8. Install new gaskets on the exhaust elbow (11) and the air inlet elbow (9).

9. Position elbows (9) and (11) and install bolts (8) and (10).

10. Tighten bolts (8) on the air inlet elbow (9) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

11. Tighten bolts (10) on the exhaust elbow (11) to a torque of 55 ± 5 N·m (41 ± 4 lb ft).

12. Replace all O-rings on water tube assembly (7).

13. Position water tube assembly (7) and install bolts (6).

14. Position the valve cover base (5) and install bolts (4).

15. Install exhaust temperature sensor (3).

16. If needed, position support (2) and install bolts.

End By:

1. Install the rocker shaft assemblies and the push rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Rocker Shaft and Push rods - Install".
