Fuel Priming Pump and Primary Filter (Water Separator) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Open the right-hand hood.

  2. Open the left-hand hood.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes to help prevent fluid loss and keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Drain the fuel water separator. Refer to Operation & Maintenance Manual , Fuel System Water Separator - Drain for the correct draining and filling procedure.

  2. Remove hose clamp (1) and disconnect hose. Disconnect hose assembly (2).

  3. Cut cable strap (3) and disconnect hose assembly (4).

  4. Remove bolt (5), bolt (6), and bolt (7). Remove fuel priming pump and primary filter water separator (8).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install fuel priming pump and primary filter water separator (8) in the reverse order of removal.
