A New Accessory Drive Bearing Is Used on Certain 3512E Tier 4 Final Engines {1207} Caterpillar

SPF743 (S/N: MLX1-UP)

Description Of Change: The new bushing has superior cavitation resistance and should provide a longer service life.

Adaptable To: A new adapter assembly will replace the current 441-3369 Adapter As (steel backed aluminum bushing) with 495-7548 Adapter As with a steel backing bronze bushing.

The new adapter assembly is adaptable to the above engines back to first production.

The required parts for installation are listed in Table 1.

1. Locate the accessory drive cover on the front of the engine (1).

2. Remove the bolts (2) and washers (3).

   Note: Set aside the bolts and washer to reuse.

3. Remove the cover (4).

   Note: Set aside the cover to reuse.

4. Remove the plugs (5).

   Note: Set aside the cover to reuse.

5. Remove and discard the seal (6). Remove bolts (7) from the adapter (8).

   Note: Set aside the bolts to reuse.

6. Remove the adapter and discard.

7. Install the new adapter.

8. Install a new seal (6) and install the bolts that were used previously (7) and torque to 47 ± 9 N·m (34.6 ± 6.6 lb ft).

9. Install the plugs (5) that were previously removed in step 4.

10. Install the cover (9) using the bolts (10) and washers (11) from previous step. Tighten bolts to 215 ± 40 N·m (158 ± 29 lb ft).
