Note: Caterpillar recommends running approved coolant only in the jacket water system.

If water is used, such as for engine test, one of the following steps can be taken to prevent water from freezing in the fuel heater:

  • Before adding water to the system, remove both lines to the fuel heater at the elbow. Plug using 6V-9507 Plug.

  • Before adding water to the system, install an additional ball valve to the fuel heater circuit. Close the ball valves that are upstream and downstream of the fuel heater. Keep the valves closed until the water is purged from the system.

If water is trapped in heater after purging the system, coolant can be added directly to the heater. Add the coolant by removing one of the fittings at the fuel heater.
