Identification Of Intake And Exhaust Valves That May Be Used In Remanufactured Direct Injected 3400 Cylinder Heads{1105}

Usage:

3406 And 3408 Truck Engines

The following chart identifies the part numbers of all acceptable intake and exhaust valves used in remanufactured direct injected 3400 cylinder heads.

History

1. In 1981 the 4N-5654 Intake Valve was canceled and replaced by (CRB) the 1W-3859 Intake Valve. At the same time the 7N-4580 Exhaust Valve was CRB the 1W-3860 Exhaust Valve.
2. A Truck Engine News article, dated September 1982, titled "Improved Inlet And Exhaust Valves" announced the above changes and said the former valves could be installed again if they were in usable condition.
3. In 1983, the 1W-3859 Intake Valve was CRB the 2W-2622 Intake Valve to provide a valve that did not use cobalt.
4. A Truck Engine News article, dated September 1984, titled "New Inlet Valve Used" announced the new 2W-2622 Intake Valve.
5. Currently, the remanufacturing facility conducts an "Eddy Current Test" on all 3400 intake valves before they are used again. Caterpillar engine engineering has approved the reuse of all intake valves from any former 3400 applications, as long as those valves pass all required inspections.
