Usage:
3176 (7LG) Truck Engines
This personality module features five changes. All, or perhaps none, of these changes will be obvious during operation of an individual engine. However, you may have an operational problem that will be corrected by the new personality module (see tables for part number). The new personality module was factory installed effective with engine serial number 7LG22149.
NOTE: Certain improvements will also be released for 3176 2YG1-Up Truck Engines. A separate Truck Engine News article will follow when the personality modules are available.
CHANGE 1: Improve Timing Ring Runout Capability.
IMPROVEMENT: The Speed/Timing strategy has been improved to be less susceptible to timing ring runout. This personality module should be installed for intermittent logging of 190-02 (FC34) "Loss of Engine RPM" diagnostic code which results in the engine cutting out under load.
NOTE: If the problem continues after this personality module is installed the timing ring runout should be measured. Acceptable maximum limits for Static timing ring runout is .18 mm (.007 in) Total Indicator Runout (TIR) or .10 mm (.004 in) tooth-to-tooth.
NOTE: Effective with engine serial number 7LG15743 the integral timing ring/gear went into production. The integral timing ring/gear design reduces the possibility of runout.
CHANGE 2: Reduce Acceleration Exhaust Smoke.
IMPROVEMENT: This change will reduce the level of exhaust smoke during light load engine acceleration. The change may or may not be noticeable depending on the individual engine. This personality module should be installed on an engine if reduced exhaust smoke during light load engine acceleration is desired.
CHANGE 3: Reduce White Smoke At Idle
IMPROVEMENT: This change will reduce white smoke while the engine is idling. The change is most effective while idling in cold weather or at altitude.
CHANGE 4: Diagnostic Code 84-01 (FC31) "Loss of Vehicle speed Signal" is LESS sensitive.
IMPROVEMENT: Diagnostic Code 84-01 (FC31) "Loss of Vehicle speed Signal" is LESS sensitive to false logging during PTO operation.
NOTE: The trip point for this diagnostic code has been optimized for most PTO applications.
CHANGE 5: Change Unprotected Information That Is Broadcast On The Engine Data Link (J1587).
IMPROVEMENT: Diagnostic Code 168-02 (FC51) "Intermittent Battery" is not broadcast on the Engine Data Link (J1587) until the engine starts; eliminating false broadcast of this diagnostic code. Also, more unprotected information is broadcast on the Engine Data Link (J1587) such as engine serial number, vehicle identification number, total fuel, idle time, and hours. This personality module should be installed on engines if the customer requires the special broadcast of the above information. This does not effect the ECAP display information.
OTHER CHANGES:
These changes are included in the personality module release but should not effect the operation of engines that are already in service.
IMPROVEMENT: Compatible with Allison automatic transmissions. Compatible with CEEMAT transmissions (J1922 personality modules only).
