Turbocharger - Remove and Install

Usage:

C175-16 3A9

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the air cleaners.

  2. Remove turbo shielding.

  3. Remove exhaust system.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Clamp assemblies MUST only be used once. Discard all clamp assemblies after use.



NOTICE

Bellows assemblies MUST only be used once. Discard all bellows assemblies after use.

  1. Remove hose assemblies (1).

  2. Remove tube assembly (2).

  3. Disconnect clamps (4) and (5).

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (3). The weight of turbocharger (3) is approximately 59 kg (130 lb)

  5. Remove bolts (6). Remove turbocharger (3).

  6. Remove screen assembly (7) from support (9) and inspect. Remove O-ring seal (8).

  7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the remaining turbochargers.

Installation Procedure

Install turbocharger (3) in the reverse order of removal.
