The new 453-6003 Guide Spring and 453-5998 Valve Lifter As have been improved to reduce rotation and to add additional strength during engine operating conditions. The new 453-6003 Guide Spring and 453-5998 Valve Lifter As are a direct replacement for the existing 384-4171 Guide Spring and 384-4172 Valve Lifter As .

Note: The new 453-5998 Valve Lifter As has a dull gray finish as opposed to more polished finish of the 384-4172 Valve Lifter As. The dull gray finish is due to an additional heat treatment which adds strength to the lifter.

This change is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above.

This change is effective for engine serial numbers listed in Table 1.
