For the engines listed above utilize the FT3193 Harness Assembly, with Cat ET software and CAT Communication Adapter to communicate with Adem II 6X/6U Electronic Control Modules(ECMs). Then follow the procedure outlined in this document.

    Illustration 1g02797602

  1. Plug in the 40-pin harness connector into the J1 connector of the ECM. Refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Plug in the 9-pin harness connector to the CAT Communication Adapter.

  1. Connect the black harness clip to "–VBAT".

  1. Connect the red harness clip to "+VBAT".

    Illustration 2g02795999

Note: Cat ET will not communicate with a blank Reman ADEM II-6 ECM unless Caterpillar Data Link(CDL) is connected and Cat ET is configured for CDL communication. Refer to Illustration 2

Note: If the communication is not stopped, an "Engine: Not Supported" message will be shown. This message is normal since the ECM is loaded with basic software. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Start the communication with Cat ET then stop the communication.

  1. Select "Winflash" from the "Utilities" menu on CAT ET.

    Illustration 3g02796050

Note: ECM will not flash unless American Trucking Association(ATA) is connected and Winflash is configured for ATA communication (1) .

  1. Current software will show as 0000000 (2). This reading is normal and does not mean the ECM has not been memory washed at the factory. Refer to Illustration 3

  1. Wait until the ECM has been linked.

  1. Program the flash file into the ECM.

  1. Press the "Browse" button in order to select the name of the flash file that will be programmed into the ECM.

  1. When the correct flash file is selected, press the "Open" button.

  1. Verify that the "File Values" match the application. If the "File Values" do not match the application, obtain the correct flash file.

  1. When the correct flash file is selected, press the "Begin Flash" button.

  1. CAT ET will indicate when flash programming has been successfully completed.
