Cat® Grade Control Depth & Slope for E-Series and F-Series Excavators Caterpillar

Machine Dimensions

Usage:

352F-VG A9J
The "Machine Dimensions" dialog is found under the "Service", "Cat Grade Control System", "Machine Dimensions" menu. For the Cat Grade Control system to provide accurate guidance and display the bucket orientation correctly, the following machine dimensions and measurements must be configured:

  • Stick dimensions

  • Boom dimensions

  • Idler link

  • Power link

  • Machine body dimensions

  • Control lengths

Approximate measurements are provided, from the factory based on the linkage configuration of the machine. However, measurements specific to a given machine may be measured and configured to achieve greater accuracy. This feature is also useful if a non-standard component is used in place of the factory component.

Note: Bucket dimensions are not measured and configured in the factory. These dimensions must be determined at the dealership or customer site once buckets to be used are known.

Refer to Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Dimensions - Configure" to obtain more information about the process to obtain the machine dimensions.

Calibrations

The Cat Grade Control system is calibrated at the factory. In the event of replacement of custom components or modification to a sensor mounting, Caterpillar recommends performing a calibration procedure prior to operation.

The Cat Grade Control system requires the following calibrations:

  • Pitch/roll (body tilt) sensor calibration

  • Front linkage position sensor calibration

Optional calibration procedures may be completed to enhance accuracy. These procedures include the following calibrations:

  • Boom sensor calibration

  • Stick sensor calibration

  • Bucket sensor calibration

If optional attachments are installed (tilt bucket angle sensor and heading sensor), then the corresponding calibrations must also be performed.
