Pitch - The forward and aft grade (or mainfall) of the machine.
Roll - The side-to-side grade of the machine.
Slope - The angle of a surface parallel to the linkage orientation.
Cross slope - The cross fall of the bucket, perpendicular to the linkage orientation.
The heading is the direction that the linkage is facing, shown in degrees. The angle shown is relative to the reference heading defined by the operator. Furthermore, where 0 degrees equals the exact reference heading and +/- 180 degrees refers to the opposite direction of the original reference heading.
Pitch is the forward or aft angle of the machine, displayed in degrees from the horizontal (0 degrees). The pitch is considered positive when the angle is above the horizontal (up at the front). The pitch is considered negative when the angle is below the horizontal (down at the front).
Roll is the left-to-right angle of the machine, displayed in degrees from the horizontal (0 degrees). The roll is considered positive when the right side of the machine is above the horizontal. The roll is considered negative when the right side of the machine is below the horizontal.
The pitch is calculated with the information from the pitch sensor. The Cat Grade Control system uses the pitch of the machine body to compensate bucket tooth tip elevation for changes in machine pitch angle. Pitch and roll cannot be determined if the pitch/roll sensor is not connected. The message "Check Pitch Sensor" flashes on the monitor display. Ensure that the pitch/roll sensor is connected to the CAN bus. Pitch and roll may become inaccurate if the sensor mounting is disturbed and the sensor is not recalibrated.
Cross slope is the cross fall of the bucket, perpendicular to the linkage. This application is significant when the machine has a tilt bucket or tilting quick coupler. Positive cross slope rises to the right. With respect to the left bucket tip, the cross slope is considered positive when the right bucket tip is high, and negative when the right bucket tip is low. If the machine is equipped with a tilt bucket or tilting quick coupler, the bucket cross slope (or tilt) is measured by the tilt bucket angle sensor. If the machine is not equipped with a tilt bucket or tilting quick coupler, then the bucket cross slope (or tilt) is approximately equal to the machine roll angle.
