Radiator Fan Guards And Braces Changed{1360}

Usage:

All 3500 Generator Set, Industrial, Vehicular ( 97Y, 51Y, 28Z ) and Spark-ignited Engines Equipped With Folded Core Radiators

Description of Change: The radiator fan guards on the three folded core radiators have been improved to provide stronger, integrated fan guards. The new fan guards now consist of two plates with the wire guards welded to the plates. The former fan guards consisted of four plates and two bolt-on wire guards.

The illustration shows a typical view of the new radiator fan guards for purposes of identification.

Typical radiator fan guard. 9Y7160 Guard Assembly shown.

In addition, the rods used to form the "X" bracing in front of the radiator core have been removed. The radiator frame is rigid enough that the rods are not needed. The two larger radiator groups still have the corner blocks used to mount the rod supports for servicing the former radiators. The new version of the smaller radiator group no longer has the mounting blocks for the rod supports.

The braces for the top of the radiator have changed from two braces attached to the engine support rails to two braces attached to the engine water temperature regulator housing. These new rods are shorter and more rigid.

Adaptable To: The new 9Y7160 Fan Guard Assembly replaces the guard assemblies and 7W7351 Fan Guard Assemblies as shown in Chart A. The new 9Y7161 Fan Guard Assembly replaces the plates, guards, and 7W4939 Fan Guard Assemblies as shown in Chart B. The new 9Y4892 Fan Guard Assembly replaces the plate assemblies and 7W7344 Fan Guard Assemblies as shown in Chart C. The charts list hardware and other parts removed due to the changes.
