New Cylinder Blocks, Main Bearing Caps, And Main Bearing Cap Bolts Used{1201}

Usage:

3500 Family Of Engines

Reference: Service Magazine; August 15, 1988; Page 7; "Wider Main Bearing Cap And Higher Torque On Cap Bolts" on 3500 Family Of Engines.

Description of Change: New cylinder blocks, main bearing caps, and main bearing cap bolts are used on the 3500 Family Of Engines. The main bearing caps and cylinder blocks have larger holes to allow the use of larger main bearing cap bolts. The new main bearing cap bolts are 22.22 mm (.875") in diameter, while the former bolts were 19.05 mm (.750") in diameter. The new cylinder blocks, main bearing caps, and main bearing cap bolts will provide greater load capacity at the cap to block joint. This will help eliminate movement between the block and main bearing cap which can cause block failure. Tighten the new main bearing cap bolts to a torque of 190 ± 14 N·m (140 ± 10 lb ft), then turn the bolts an additional 180 ° ± 5 °.

Adaptable To: The new 3508 cylinder block, new 9Y9175 Main Bearing Cap, and new 7X7925 Main Bearing Cap Bolts are in effect as shown in Chart A. The 9Y6421 Service Cylinder Block Group, which includes the new cylinder block, main bearing cap, and main bearing cap bolt, is available to service 3508 Engines with the new cylinder block.

The new 3512 cylinder block, new 9Y9175 Main Bearing Cap, and new 7X7925 Main Bearing Cap Bolts are in effect as shown in Chart B. The 7C6957 Service Cylinder Block Group, which includes the new cylinder block, main bearing cap, and main bearing cap bolt, is available to service 3512 Engines with the new cylinder block.

The new 3516 cylinder block, new 9Y9175 Main Bearing Cap, and new 7X7925 Main Bearing Cap Bolts are in effect as shown in Chart C. The 7C7754 Service Cylinder Block Group, which includes the new cylinder block, main bearing cap, and main bearing cap bolt, is available to service 3516 Engines with the new cylinder block.
