Procedure for Removing and Installing the 343-2886 Control Valve Cover on G3500 Engines{1250, 1740, 5137} Caterpillar

Introduction

The covers on the 185-5310 Fuel Valve Gp , the 204-3508 Fuel Valve Gp , and the 236-1123 Fuel Valve Gp are being damaged. The cover is now a serviceable part. The cover can be ordered separately from the valve assembly. Use the following instructions to properly remove the control valve cover and install the control valve cover.

1. Remove screws and washers (2) that attach the cover to the electrical connector.

2. Remove screws and washers (1) along the perimeter of the cover. There are eighteen total.

3. Remove the damaged cover.

4. Inspect O-ring seal (3) and O-ring seal (4) for contamination. Clean the O-ring seal if cleaning is needed.

Installation

1. Lubricate O-ring seal (3) and O-ring seal (4) with petroleum jelly.

2. Install the new cover. Install screws and washers (1) and tighten finger tight.

3. Install screws and washers (2) and tighten finger tight.

4. Torque all screws to 3 ± 0.3 N·m (28 ± 3 lb in) in a crisscross pattern.
