Removal Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the turbochargers into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Remove clamp assembly (5) and disconnect elbow (4) from turbocharger (1).

  3. Disconnect hose assembly (6) and fitting (7).

  4. Remove the bolts from each end of oil drain tube (8). Remove oil drain tube (8).

  5. Remove tube assembly (2).

  6. Remove nuts (3) and the washers.

  7. Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (1). The weight of each turbocharger (1) is approximately 81 kg (178 lb).

  8. Remove nuts (10) and (11), and the washers. Remove the gasket between exhaust bellows (9) and turbocharger (1). Remove turbocharger (1).

  9. Repeat this process on the opposite side.
