Bore Caterpillar Engines, Including Those Used in Machine Applications
- SUPPLEMENT: 10/09/78
SERVICE MAGAZINE, AUGUST 21, 1978, PAGE 11: In the article "Improved Piston Pins Are Made Of Different Material For Better Hardness Characteristics When Heat Treated", add 6.25" to the engine bore sizes shown in the sub-title. New piston pins made of the improved material are also used in the 6.25" Bore Engines.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: The piston pins used in the above engines are now made of a different type steel, and are heat treated with a different procedure. This improves the hardness characteristics of the piston pin for longer service life.
Adaptable As: The new piston pins are direct replacements for the former piston pins, which are canceled. Specific part numbers are shown in Parts Book Microfiche and the NPR (Numerical Parts Record).
