Sleeve-Type Ring Compressors Can Be Used For Installation Of Pistons From The Bottom Of The Engine{0622}

Usage:

In some applications, the pistons in some marine engines need to be inspected at regular intervals. Because of the limited overhead clearance in many installations it is difficult to remove and install the pistons from the top of the engine. This makes it desirable to remove and install the pistons from the bottom. A sleeve-type piston ring compressor is needed to install pistons from the bottom if there is not enough clearance to use the scissors-type compressor in the crankcase. The two drawings that follow show sleeve-type ring compressors that can be made for use with 5 3/4" bore and 6 1/4" bore engines if the 2B8148 and 6H4140 Compressors are not available. The 2B8148 and 6H4140 Compressors have been canceled.

Additional copies of the drawings can be ordered:

FT1400 Ring Compressor (5 3/4" bore engines).
FT1401 Ring Compressor (6 1/4" bore engines).

NOTE: The scissors-type compressors decrease the possibility of ring damage and must be used when the pistons are installed from the top.
