Usage:
All Caterpillar Products With Sperry Vickers Vane-Type Pumps
Because there are no alignment pins through the new type cartridge used in Sperry Vickers vane-type hydraulic pumps, a special assembly procedure must be used.
NOTE: If the cartridge parts are not in alignment, it will not be possible to install the pump cover and body.
There are two procedures which can be used to assemble the cartridges. Special Instruction Form SMHS7047, "Special Disassembly and Assembly Procedures For Sperry Vickers Pumps With New Type Cartridges", gives one assembly procedure. In this procedure, alignment marks are put across the outer surface of the cartridge parts for reference and the pump cover is used to put the cartridge in alignment.
Sperry Vickers now has an optional procedure to use to be sure the cartridge parts (three sections) are in alignment before installation into the pump body. With all the marks in alignment, put the three sections in a V-block to get the three sections in correct alignment. Tighten the screws to the correct torque specification, and again check the alignment of the cartridge. Install the necessary O-ring seals and back-up rings. Install the cartridge and cover. Tighten the cover bolts to the correct torque specification.
Make a note of this optional method in your copy of Special Instruction Form SMHS7047 because a revision will not be made.
