Flashing the Display

Equipment Required:

  • VIMS cable 457-6114 Cable As

  • Current version of Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET)

  • A personal computer (PC) with an Ethernet port (Display can only be flashed with a direct Ethernet connection.)

Note: The VIMS cable 457-6114 Cable As goes from the CA3 to the 14-pin service port on the machine. An Ethernet cable is still required to connect from the personal computer to the VIMS cable. The cable has a RJ45 port to plug in the Ethernet cable from the personal computer.

Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Set-up Instructions

Note: The display can only be flashed with a direct Ethernet connection. To flash, connect an Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port on the CA3 adapter harness. Connect the remaining end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN connection on the computer.

    Engine Speed Detected

  12. Cat ET detects the engine speed.

Note: Any errors coming back from the ECM that would prevent the flash would occur at the beginning of the procedure. The error messages would occur after the user has clicked the Begin Flash button and before flashing actually begins.

  15. Connect to Cat ET.

  16. Go to Display > Configurations.

  17. Verify that the Product ID matches the Machine Product ID. If Product ID does not match, change the cycle power to the machine so the Display can re-request the Product ID from the Machine ECM.

Note: This machine cannot manually change product ID configuration. Changing the product ID configuration is supported in the ECM summary screen in ET, but not in the configuration area.
