Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure. Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak. |
NOTICE |
---|
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
NOTICE |
---|
When the compensator is rebuilt, make sure that the pressure compensator adjustment is backed out to a low pressure setting before the engine is started. Otherwise, severe pump and system damage can result. |
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system. Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. |

Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation".
- Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location that is away from operating machines and away from personnel.
- Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the operators sight.
- Place the steering control lever in the NEUTRAL position.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Lower the attachments to the ground.
- Stop the engine.

(E1) Service connector - Connect Tooling (B) to service tool connector (E1).
- Open the software program for Cat ET.
- Start the engine and warm up the hydraulics if necessary. The hydraulic oil temperature should be at least
50° C (122° F) . - This pressure can be taken at high Idle or low idle, there should be no difference in pressure.

(2) Quick coupler switch
(3) Quick coupler indicator panel - Actuate the quick coupler using the coupler switch (2) that is located to the right of the operator inside the cab. The quick coupler will then attempt to actuate for a few seconds. Do not actuate any other function at the time when checking the quick coupler. After the quick coupler has been actuated, check the quick coupler pressure.
- The pressure should be
20000 ± 700 kPa (2901 ± 102 psi) . - If the pressure is within specifications, shut off the machine. If adjustment is needed, refer the "Adjustment Procedure".
- Locate the quick coupler pressure reducing valve that is located underneath the cab on the left side of the machine as shown in Illustration 3.
- Use a hex wrench to loosen the locknut (5) and an internal hex to adjust adjuster screw (6). Turn the adjuster screw clockwise in order to increase the pressure setting. Turn the adjuster screw counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure setting.
Note: The last movement should be clockwise before securing the locknut.
- Tighten the locknut (5) to
17 ± 3 N·m (150 ± 27 lb in) . - Turn off the machine.
