Valve Lifter - Assemble

Assembly Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Install new guide springs (3) and (4) on valve lifters (6) and unit injector lifter (8) if the original guide spring was removed.

    Note: The guide springs must not be used again if the guide spring was removed from the valve lifter. If the guide spring was removed, install a new guide spring always.

  2. Install inserts (2) while the end that is recessed is facing outward. Install new O-ring seals (1) to hold the inserts in place.

  3. Immerse valve lifters (6) and unit injector lifter (8) in clean engine oil.

    Note: Compress guide springs (3) so that valve lifters (6) can be installed in guide (5).

  4. Install valve lifters (6) in the original positions. Install the valve lifters so that the guide spring will be in the correct position.

    Note: Valve lifters (6) must be installed in guide (5) with the part numbers facing out.

  5. Install unit injector lifter (8).

    Note: Unit injector lifter (8) must be installed in guide (5) with the part numbers facing out.

  6. Install the valve lifters and the unit injector lifter to Dimension (X). Dimension (X) is 118 ± 2 mm (4.6 ± 0.1 inch).

End By:

  1. Install the valve lifter group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Lifter - Install".
