Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.
The following Special Instruction provides the procedure that should be followed when installing master track bolts.
Safety Section
Do not attempt to disassemble or assemble this machine until you read and understand the disassembly and assembly instructions. Improper disassembly and assembly procedures could result in injury or death. |
Personal injury or death can result from improper lifting or blocking. When a hoist or jack is used to lift any part or component, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist or jack has the correct capacity to lift a component. Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component. Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed. |
The machine must be on a level, hard surface before a separation of the track is made. Any time a separation of both tracks is made, the machine must have blocks correctly positioned so the machine will not move. |
Keep away from the front of the machine when the track is pushed off the final drive. A minimum distance of |
Installation Procedure
- Clean the mating surfaces of the track shoe and master link. Use compressed air and, if necessary, a pick to clean all dirt, debris, paint, and rust from the tooth profile and bolt holes in each split master link.
- Clean the threads in the master links of dirt and debris using a 1U-9707 1 1/8-7 NC Thread Tap.
- The mating surfaces of both the pin and bushing end master link halves will become fully engaged with one another. There must be no more than
2.0 mm (0.079 inch) of misalignment between the sides of the forged surfaces of the pin and bushing end master link halves. If there is more than2.0 mm (0.079 inch) of misalignment, the misalignment must be corrected before proceeding. - Install the master track shoe onto the master links of the track.
- Apply Loctite C5-A copper anti-seize lubricant on the threads, body, and washer face of each master bolt and on the shoe around the bolt holes before installation of bolts.
- Align the shoe holes and the link holes. Install the master bolts to hold the master links together. Best practice is to start the bolts by hand to avoid cross threading. If the bolts do not turn freely, the binding or misalignment must be corrected before proceeding.
Note: Do not reuse master link bolts. Replace all four bolts with every installation.
Show/hide tableIllustration 1 g06207968 - The new bolts use a 1U-8586 1 11/16 Socket. Tighten all bolts to a torque of
700 ± 70 N·m (516.29200 ± 52 lb ft) in the pattern shown in Illustration 1. Verify that the torque values are met. - Torque Turn each bolt an extra 90° +/- 5° using the same torque pattern.
Note: To ensure proper master link life and bolted joint integrity, the specific torque plus turn must be properly followed.
