Removal Procedure
Note: Use 8T-0447 Dial Calipers to measure the dimensions in the following procedure.
NOTICE |
---|
Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Remove cover (1) from the cylinder that has the piston cooling jet that will be removed. Remove the O-ring seal from cover (1) .
Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.

- Remove the bolts and piston cooling jet (2) from the cylinder block.

NOTICE |
---|
Special care must be taken not to bend the piston cooling jets because the piston cooling jets are precision aligned with a coolant passage in the pistons. There is only one position for each cooling jet. The notch in the bottom of the piston allows clearance for the piston cooling jet when the piston is at bottom dead center. |
- Inspect each piston cooling jet (2). Inspect the piston cooling jet for the presence of cracks or for evidence of contact with other components. Tap the piston cooling jet lightly in order to remove debris from the screen.
- Check the orifice in order to be sure that the orifice is not restricted. Use a drill cleaner in order to clean the orifice. The diameter of the orifice is 4.00 ± 0.02 mm (0.158 ± 0.001 inch). Do not enlarge the size of the orifice.
Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Put piston cooling jet (2) in position on the cylinder block. Install the bolts that hold piston cooling jet (2) in place. Be sure that there is no interference with the piston after the piston cooling jet is installed.
Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "General Information (Reference Material)" for more information.
