Batteries - Remove and Install

Usage:

980L D8Z

Removal Procedure

Start By:

a. Connect the steering frame lock.

  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Remove step assembly (1) on the left side of the machine.

  3. Remove cover (2).

  4. Disconnect cable assembly (3).

  5. Disconnect cable assembly (4) from both batteries.

  6. Disconnect cable assembly (5).

  7. Remove nut (6) and battery hold-down bracket (7).

  8. Remove bolts (8) and bracket (9).

  9. Use two people to remove batteries (10). The weight of batteries (10) each weighs approximately 54 kg (119 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install batteries (10) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten nut (6) to a torque of 6.8 ± 1.4 N·m (60.2 ± 12.4 lb in).

    2. Connect cable assemblies (3), (4), and (5) to a torque of 7.2 ± 1.6 N·m (63.7 ± 14.2 lb in).
