Bore V-Type Engines Except 3400 Series
Several changes have been made to main and connecting rod bearings used in the above engines. Many part numbers are necessary for different sizes of replacement bearings, and it has been difficult for servicemen to understand the correct part numbers to use during engine service work. Also, an earlier article "New Main and Connecting Rod Bearings Are Made of Higher Strength Material" on Page 1 of the August 22, 1977 Service Magazine did not show the correct model application for the main bearings given in the article. Make a note that the earlier article is canceled and this article is to be used for reference.
For fast, easy reference, the parts chart that follows shows a complete list of the correct bearings for these engines, including part numbers of former bearings. This will be of assistance in the selection of correct bearings to use during engine service work.
