The new 446-8013 Roller As (1) replaces the former 343-4259 Elevator Chain Roller Gp and 8I-2404 Elevator Chain Adjustment Idler .
The new 446-8017 Roller As (2) replaces the former 215-4459 Elevator Chain Roller Gp .
Proper chain slack of the elevator must be maintained to help inhibit wear and to increase performance. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual. If the chain slack is too little, extra loads will be created onto the lower roller shaft and friction will be increased. If the chain slack is too much, wear on the chain will be increased and the elevator loading capability will be decreased. Too much chain slack also increases the risk of the chain jumping off the sprocket and rollers.

The new rollers will ride on the middle of the elevator chain assembly, as shown in Illustration 2, instead of riding on the chain sidebars. The new roller increases the service life of the chain.
The new rollers must be installed in pairs when replacing the former part numbers. If the rollers are not installed in pairs, the rollers will create different tensions in the chain, and cause premature wear. The new 446-8013 Roller As can be installed without installing the new 446-8017 Roller As, or Vice versa.

The bearing capacity for the new roller assembly (1) has been increased. Roller assembly (1) is packed and sealed with Desert Gold grease and does not require any grease maintenance. For operation in extreme cold, use Moly5 Grease instead.
The new roller assembly uses a double lip seal. The double lip seal provides a better load path for bearing pretension, which will reduce the potential for bearing crush.
When installing the new roller assembly, thoroughly clean the inside and outside of the frame tube where the mounting bolts are inserted into. Tighten the mounting bolt to 1230 ± 70 N·m (907 ± 52 lb ft). Ensure that the roller rotates freely after tightening the bolt.
After installing roller assembly (1), replace the 2H-6338 O-ring Seal under the cover with a new 2H-6338 O-ring Seal. Lubricating the seals with O-ring compound or grease before putting the cover on. Finally, rub some grease into the gap between the roller and base to inhibit debris entry.
Note: When the 446-8013 Roller As is installed onto a machine with new chains, for a time period, the 446-8013 Roller As will induce an increase of sound transmission for spectators when the flights travel over them. There is no sound increase in the cab. This noise will go away as the chains accumulate hours.

(2) 446-8017 Roller As |
Within the new elevator chain roller assembly (2), the outside diameter of 8J-6559 Shaft (A) has been slightly reduced for best bearing life. Also the shaft end and caps which have been updated so that they are keyed together better to prevent shaft rotation.
The elevator chain roller group (2) requires SAE 80W-90 oil. Each roller has a fill volume of approximately 0.5 L (0.13 US gal). When filling elevator chain roller assembly (2), the plugs on the side of the caps must be removed, and then the oil must be gravity filled into the roller. Let the roller sit for at least 10 minutes so that the rest of the oil can be added and repeat as necessary until the oil volume has been added. Once the roller assembly is filled, reinstall the plugs.
